GRAND HAVEN, Mich. \u2014 A standoff in Grand Haven ended Monday afternoon after a tense several-hour standoff that began with a reported assault and a person allegedly armed with a gun.<\/p>\n

The Grand Haven Department of Public Safety responded to a call around 10:20 a.m. reporting an assault at a residence on Franklin Avenue near US-31. According to authorities, the suspect was armed, prompting officers to set up a perimeter around the area after initial attempts to make contact were unsuccessful. Neighbors in the area were advised to stay inside their homes as officers went door-to-door around noon, warning them to avoid the two-block area that was cordoned off by police.<\/p>\n

The Mobile gas station located on US-31 north of Franklin Avenue was also shut down during the standoff, with police restricting all access to the parking lot.<\/p>\n

As the situation escalated, the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office Critical Response Team, a SWAT team, was called in to assist. Officers were seen in tactical gear, with some carrying firearms, as they established a base at the corner of Franklin and 8th Streets.<\/p>\n

An \u201cextensive negotiation period\u201d followed, according to police, lasting for several hours. At approximately 4:15 p.m., officers could be heard calling for the suspect to exit the home with their hands up.<\/p>\n

Around 4:30 p.m., the suspect was taken into custody using “less lethal force,” though authorities did not provide specifics about the methods used. The individual was arrested on two counts of felonious assault.<\/p>\n

As of the report, the identity of the suspect has not been released, with police noting that further details would be provided following the arraignment.<\/p>\n
