WRIGHT TOWNSHIP, Mich. \u2014 An 18-year-old from the Marne area has been charged with involuntary manslaughter following the shooting death of another 18-year-old on Saturday evening. The victim, Hector Enriquez-Rangel, was fatally shot and later died from his injuries at a local hospital.<\/p>\n

Alan Lopez, the accused, was arraigned on Monday afternoon on charges of involuntary manslaughter, carrying a concealed weapon, and using a firearm in the commission of a felony. Lopez is said to have been with Enriquez-Rangel in a vehicle before the shooting occurred. According to authorities, a gunshot was fired inside the vehicle, striking Enriquez-Rangel in the torso.<\/p>\n

Enriquez-Rangel arrived at Helen DeVos Children\u2019s Hospital in Grand Rapids around 7 p.m. on Saturday with a gunshot wound. Despite medical efforts, he was pronounced dead shortly after arriving at the hospital. Investigators believe the shooting took place between 6:30 and 6:45 p.m. near the intersection of Arthur Street and 24th Avenue in Wright Township, just east of Coopersville.<\/p>\n

Ottawa County Sheriff\u2019s Office Captain Jacob Sparks stated that Lopez and Enriquez-Rangel were friends who had been riding together in the vehicle before the incident. “The information that we have at this time is that the two subjects were in a vehicle together prior to the shooting and a shot was fired inside that vehicle,” Sparks said. “They were friends that were riding in the vehicle together prior to the shot being fired and prior to any criminal activity.”<\/p>\n

After the shooting, Lopez drove Enriquez-Rangel to the hospital, where he was later arrested. At his arraignment, Lopez\u2019s bail was set at $100,000.<\/p>\n

While the investigation remains ongoing, authorities are considering the possibility that the shooting may have been accidental. Captain Sparks emphasized the various potential outcomes in such cases: “Sometimes homicides can be accidental. Sometimes they can be intentional. Sometimes they can be premeditated, which would be first-degree murder. Sometimes they can be involuntary.”<\/p>\n

Lopez faces serious charges as the case continues to unfold, and further details may emerge as investigators gather more information.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
