Kalamazoo, Mich. \u2013 A Kalamazoo man has been found guilty of first-degree murder and a weapons charge following the shooting death of 17-year-old Coreleon Antonio Gordon last summer.<\/p>\n

Tieshawn Matthews, 47, was convicted on Wednesday in connection with the fatal shooting that occurred on July 8, 2024, on Summit Park Court, near South Park Street. According to the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety, Gordon was fatally shot multiple times during the incident.<\/p>\n

Law enforcement officials responded quickly to the scene after receiving witness descriptions of the suspect. Witnesses reported seeing the shooter and provided police with a direction of travel, leading authorities to locate Matthews with the weapon used in the killing. During questioning, Matthews told investigators that he was fleeing for his life, claiming that Gordon and others had been threatening to shoot him.<\/p>\n

Court documents reveal that the day before the shooting, Matthews had been involved in a separate incident in which Gordon, along with a group, allegedly threatened him with a firearm. This earlier altercation appears to have set the stage for the deadly confrontation the following day.<\/p>\n

The prosecution presented compelling evidence, including surveillance footage from the area, which showed a person matching Matthews’ appearance standing in front of Gordon. The video footage captured Gordon walking backward before falling to the ground, moments after being shot.<\/p>\n

The jury’s verdict concluded the trial, and Matthews was found guilty of first-degree murder and a weapons charge.<\/p>\n

Matthews’ sentencing is scheduled for April 21, where he will face the consequences for his role in the tragic death of Coreleon Antonio Gordon. The case has drawn attention to ongoing concerns about gun violence in Kalamazoo and the surrounding areas.<\/p>\n
