GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. \u2014 A 21-year-old hospital employee has been charged after allegedly shooting his coworker in the parking garage of Corewell Health Beaumont Troy Hospital earlier this week. The suspect, Robert Paljusevic, of Shelby Township, was arraigned on Sunday on charges including assault with intent to murder, felony firearm, and carrying a concealed weapon, according to the Oakland County Prosecutor\u2019s Office.<\/p>\n

The shooting occurred Thursday morning as the victim, a 25-year-old man, was leaving the hospital following his shift. The Troy Police Department reported that Paljusevic fired multiple shots at the victim, striking him twice in the arm. The victim, who was reportedly in stable condition following the incident, is expected to recover from his injuries.<\/p>\n

Troy Police Chief Josh Jones provided additional details during a briefing, noting that the victim and the suspect had previously been friends but had a falling out in recent times. Although the motive remains unclear, authorities are continuing to investigate the circumstances leading to the violent confrontation.<\/p>\n

After the shooting, Paljusevic fled the scene, prompting an hours-long search. The hospital was placed on lockdown while law enforcement agencies mobilized to locate the suspect. Police tracked Paljusevic to a home in Macomb County, where he was apprehended later that morning.<\/p>\n

Oakland County Prosecutor Karen McDonald expressed relief that the victim\u2019s injuries were not fatal but emphasized the broader consequences of gun violence. \u201cWe can be grateful the victim appears to be recovering from his injury, but no one should have to fear violence in the workplace,\u201d she said in a statement. \u201cThis incident sent the hospital into a lockdown, put local schools on alert, and terrified an entire community. Multiple law enforcement agencies mobilized to quickly and safely apprehend the defendant. Even in a situation where, thankfully, there were no fatalities, the real and emotional cost of gun violence is immeasurable and unacceptable.\u201d<\/p>\n

Paljusevic is being held without bond. His next court appearance is scheduled for March 31. The case continues to draw attention to the issue of workplace violence, underscoring the emotional and physical toll such incidents take on individuals and communities alike.<\/p>\n
