FENNVILLE, Mich. \u2014 A natural gas outage has left approximately 5,200 customers without service in Allegan County after a pipeline leak was reported Wednesday afternoon. Michigan Gas Utilities (MGU) confirmed that the transmission line feeding the area had been damaged, and as a result, natural gas was no longer being supplied to the affected customers.<\/p>\n

According to MGU, the damage to the pipeline is significant, and full service restoration could take several days. The utility company is working closely with the pipeline operator to repair the issue. In the meantime, MGU has assured residents that there is no need to turn off gas service at their appliances. Crews will begin shutting off gas at each customer’s meter starting Thursday morning, with plans to turn it back on when it is safe to do so.<\/p>\n

The incident began at approximately 2:45 p.m. when the Allegan County Sheriff’s Office responded to reports of a major natural gas leak in Fennville and Clyde Township. Emergency responders from both the sheriff\u2019s office and Michigan State Police Troopers were quickly dispatched to the scene. The authorities later confirmed that the gas company had successfully shut off the affected line, which led to the widespread outage.<\/p>\n

While the affected roads in Fennville and Clyde Township were initially closed to traffic, they were reopened at around 9:20 p.m. on Wednesday evening. Local officials did not provide a specific timeline for when repairs would be completed, but the situation remains under close scrutiny.<\/p>\n
