GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. \u2013 A 39-year-old man is facing a series of felony charges, including unlawful imprisonment and child abuse, after a violent confrontation with his family members that left a teenage boy with a gunshot wound.<\/p>\n

Andres Simon-Salgado, who was arrested following a standoff with law enforcement, has been charged with 11 felony offenses, including possession of a firearm by a prohibited person, felonious assault, interfering with electronic communications, and felony firearms. The charges stem from a disturbing domestic dispute on April 21 at a residence on Keller Avenue NE, located near 21 Mile Road in Spencer Township, northeastern Kent County.<\/p>\n

According to the Kent County Sheriff\u2019s Office, the confrontation began as a heated argument between Simon-Salgado and a woman, the mother of the injured boy. Court records indicate the argument, which was reportedly over allegations of infidelity, escalated over several hours and involved multiple threats of violence.<\/p>\n

Simon-Salgado allegedly took several cellphones from the house and submerged them in a pot of water, preventing anyone from calling 911. He also reportedly brandished a handgun, pointing it at the woman multiple times while she held a child on her lap. In a probable cause affidavit, a detective quoted Simon-Salgado as repeatedly threatening to kill the woman, saying that she would not be allowed to leave.<\/p>\n

The situation intensified when Simon-Salgado set the gun on the table and continued arguing with the woman. In an attempt to protect herself, the woman grabbed the firearm, leading to a physical struggle between the two. During the altercation, the gun discharged twice. One of the bullets struck a teenage boy, who was near his parents at the time. The bullet hit the teen\u2019s foot, fracturing a bone in his ankle.<\/p>\n

Simon-Salgado fled the scene following the incident, prompting a manhunt by the Kent County Sheriff\u2019s Office, which warned the public that he was armed and dangerous. After several hours, he was located and arrested in Greenville.<\/p>\n

Simon-Salgado was arraigned on April 23, and his bond was set at $1 million. The charges against him in 63rd District Court include unlawful imprisonment, a 15-year felony, and second-degree child abuse, which carries a 10-year sentence. The federal government has also become involved in the case, with Simon-Salgado facing an indictment for alien felony reentry. The indictment alleges he was previously deported from the U.S. following a prior felony conviction, though details of that conviction remain unspecified. The reentry charge carries a potential sentence of up to 10 years in prison.<\/p>\n

Simon-Salgado is scheduled for a probable cause conference this week, with a preliminary examination set for early June. Authorities are continuing to investigate the incident and are seeking justice for the victims involved.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
