KENTWOOD, Mich. \u2014 A woman was arrested Tuesday afternoon following a brief police chase that ended in a collision with another vehicle and a police cruiser.<\/p>\n
The Kentwood Police Department responded around 1:30 p.m. after receiving reports of a driver repeatedly stopping and appearing to fall asleep near 28th Street. Although no crashes had occurred at the time, concerned witnesses requested a welfare check due to the driver\u2019s unusual behavior.<\/p>\n
Officers located the vehicle parked outside Woodland Mall. When approached, the woman\u2014who was reportedly asleep in the car\u2014suddenly drove away.<\/p>\n
Due to erratic driving, police determined the driver posed a threat to public safety and initiated a pursuit. The chase concluded near the intersection of 44th Street and Kalamazoo Avenue, where the suspect\u2019s vehicle collided with another car. Following the crash, the woman\u2019s vehicle moved again and struck a police cruiser.<\/p>\n
To bring the situation to an end, a second police cruiser was positioned to block the woman\u2019s path, resulting in her vehicle coming to a stop.<\/p>\n
No officers were injured during the incident. The driver of the other vehicle involved sustained minor injuries and was treated at the scene.<\/p>\n
The suspect was taken to a hospital for evaluation before being booked into jail. She faces charges including fleeing and eluding police, resisting or obstructing police, and damaging a police vehicle.
