GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — An 18-year-old man was fatally shot in Wright Township on Saturday evening, and another 18-year-old has been arrested in connection with the incident, authorities say.

At approximately 7 p.m., deputies from the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital after an 18-year-old arrived with a gunshot wound. Despite efforts to save the victim, he was pronounced dead shortly after arriving at the hospital.

Grand Rapids Police Department officers had initially alerted the sheriff’s office about the shooting. Through their investigation, it was determined that the shooting took place near the intersection of Arthur Street and 40th Avenue in Wright Township.

Authorities later apprehended an 18-year-old male suspect at the hospital. The suspect, whose identity has not been released, is currently being held at the Ottawa County Jail. Deputies have indicated that the suspect’s name will not be disclosed until an arraignment is scheduled.

The circumstances surrounding the shooting remain unclear at this time, and authorities continue to investigate what led up to the tragic event.

This incident marks the second fatal shooting in the area in recent weeks, prompting concern among local residents. The Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office has asked anyone with information related to the incident to come forward as the investigation progresses.

As the investigation unfolds, law enforcement agencies are working to determine the cause of the shooting and whether there are any additional suspects involved.
