Grand Rapids, Mich. — The YWCA West Central Michigan has named Deb O’Leary as its new Chief Executive Officer, following the announcement of her appointment by the organization’s Board of Directors. O’Leary, who brings a wealth of experience in nonprofit leadership, succeeds Charisse Mitchell, who served as CEO for eight years.
O’Leary’s career spans several prominent nonprofit organizations, including the March of Dimes, American Diabetes Association, Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, and Susan G. Komen. Throughout her tenure, she has demonstrated a commitment to strategic growth, financial sustainability, and team-building, qualities that the YWCA board believes will help propel the organization into its next phase.
In a statement issued by the YWCA, the Board of Directors praised O’Leary’s leadership style, which they described as defined by her “strategic vision, collaborative approach, and commitment to diversity and inclusion.” Her diverse experience and passion for organizational development are expected to strengthen the nonprofit’s mission and enhance its community impact.
Mitchell, the outgoing CEO, is transitioning to a new role within Michigan’s Division of Victim Services, where she will continue her advocacy work on behalf of survivors of domestic violence. During her eight years at the helm, Mitchell was credited with significantly advancing the YWCA’s mission and services in West Central Michigan.
O’Leary will now lead the YWCA as it moves forward with its initiatives focused on empowering women and eliminating racism, with an emphasis on community collaboration and long-term sustainability.
