Covert Township, Mich. — A man arrested in Southwest Michigan on charges of home invasion is now facing serious accusations in connection with the murders of his parents in Missouri.

Jason Sessoms, 38, was taken into custody on March 29 after breaking into a residence on Blue Star Highway in Covert Township, located in Van Buren County. Authorities say Sessoms attempted to burglarize the home around 12:45 a.m. when he was confronted by the homeowner, who was armed. In an attempt to flee the scene, Sessoms was met outside by responding officers.

According to police reports, Sessoms resisted arrest, fighting back against officers and attempting to disarm one of them. During the altercation, officers discovered that Sessoms was carrying two handguns.

In the course of his arrest, a juvenile family member was found traveling with Sessoms. Authorities questioned the child, which led to a disturbing revelation. Investigators learned that Sessoms was involved in the shooting deaths of his parents, who were found at an Extended Stay motel in Kansas City, Missouri.

The Clay County, Missouri, prosecutor’s office has charged Sessoms with two counts of first-degree murder and two counts of armed criminal action in connection with the killings. According to court documents, Sessoms claimed that an argument over money escalated into violence. Sessoms allegedly became upset after discovering that his mother had spent his money on a motel room. In a statement to investigators, Sessoms said he “crept” up behind his mother while she slept and shot her twice in the head. His father, who attempted to intervene, was also shot in the back of the head.

Following his arrest in Michigan, Sessoms was transported to the Van Buren County Jail, where he faces a series of charges, including first-degree home invasion, attempting to disarm a police officer, car theft, carrying a concealed weapon, and resisting and obstructing an officer. He was arraigned on these charges on Sunday in South Haven, Michigan.

The investigation continues as authorities in both Michigan and Missouri work to gather further details about the events leading up to Sessoms’ violent actions. The case remains under active investigation, and Sessoms is expected to face extradition to Missouri to answer for the murder charges.

This tragic and disturbing series of events has left the local communities in both Covert Township and Kansas City in shock. Authorities are urging anyone with additional information to come forward as they continue to piece together the details surrounding this senseless crime.
