EMMETT TOWNSHIP, Mich. — A man was taken into custody Friday in Emmett Township following the discovery of two suspected improvised explosive devices (IEDs) inside a residence, authorities said.
The Emmett Charter Township Department of Public Safety executed a search warrant at a home on East Columbia Avenue near Main Street as part of an ongoing investigation. During the search, officers found the suspected IEDs along with several firearms believed to be connected to criminal activity.
The department requested assistance from the Battle Creek Police Department Bomb Squad, who safely removed and secured the devices. Officials stated there is no ongoing threat to the public.
One individual was arrested at the scene on multiple outstanding felony warrants, including charges of assault with a dangerous weapon and felony firearms violations.
Emmett Township Public Safety is collaborating with the Battle Creek Police Department Gang Suppression Unit as the investigation continues.
Authorities have not released further details regarding the nature of the devices or the suspect’s identity.
