MUSKEGON, Mich. — A 34-year-old woman was shot Sunday evening in Muskegon, authorities confirmed.

The incident occurred around 8:40 p.m. near the intersection of Mangin Avenue and Kingsley Street when the woman sustained a gunshot wound to her lower back, according to Muskegon County Dispatch.

Following the shooting, police pursued a suspect in a short chase, ultimately taking the individual into custody. The suspect’s identity has not been released pending further investigation.

Officials have not yet determined what led to the shooting. The investigation is ongoing as authorities work to piece together the circumstances surrounding the incident.
