EGELSTON TOWNSHIP, Mich. — A Muskegon County man is in custody following a dramatic series of events on Saturday night that involved a shooting and arson at a home in Egelston Township.
Around 8:00 p.m., Michigan State Police and the Muskegon County Sheriff’s Office responded to reports of gunfire coming from a residence on South Sullivan Road. Upon arrival, authorities say the suspect confronted them before setting fire to the inside of the house.
As the situation escalated, the suspect barricaded himself inside the home, along with two children. Police quickly entered the residence, arresting the suspect and extinguishing the flames. Fortunately, the children were unharmed, though the woman who was shot was rushed to a nearby hospital. Her current condition has not been disclosed.
The incident prompted a swift response from local law enforcement, including Muskegon Township Police, City of Muskegon Police, Fruitport Township Police, and the Egelston Fire Department. Authorities have confirmed that there is no ongoing threat to the community.
The investigation into the shooting and arson has been turned over to Michigan State Police, who are continuing to gather details about the incident.
At this time, the suspect’s identity has not been released, and no further details about the woman’s injuries have been made public.
