COLDWATER, Mich. — Three individuals were taken into custody in Branch County on Sunday after deputies discovered they were in possession of a stolen vehicle from Indiana. The arrest came after a Coldwater Police Department license plate reader flagged the vehicle as stolen.

According to the Branch County Sheriff’s Office, the incident began when the license plate reader detected the stolen Kia vehicle. Authorities swiftly launched an investigation and located the car in a parking lot on Willowbrook Road, situated on the east side of Coldwater. Deputies approached the vehicle and conducted a stop without incident.

Following the stop, all three individuals in the car were arrested and are facing charges related to possession of methamphetamine. One of the individuals is also charged with possession of stolen property in connection with the stolen vehicle.

The names of the suspects have not been released as of Monday morning, and authorities are continuing their investigation.

The quick response by law enforcement officials highlights the growing use of technology, such as license plate readers, in tracking stolen vehicles and aiding in criminal investigations.

The case remains under investigation, and further details are expected to emerge as the process continues.
