BATTLE CREEK, Mich. — Oak Hill Cemetery, a historic site in Battle Creek, remains closed following severe storm damage sustained during last week’s weather event on May 13. Cemetery officials announced that cleanup efforts could take up to two and a half months, prompting the closure over the Memorial Day weekend and beyond.

A sign reading “Closed due to weather damage” was posted at the cemetery’s front gate on Sunday, informing visitors of the closure.

Oak Hill Cemetery is well-known as the final resting place of several prominent figures, including W.K. Kellogg, John Harvey Kellogg, C.W. Post, and Sojourner Truth. The site attracts tourists from across the globe each year, who come to pay respects and explore the historical significance of the grounds.

In a statement on social media, Oak Hill Cemetery expressed sadness over the timing of the closure, particularly as it coincides with Memorial Day, a period traditionally dedicated to honoring those who have passed.

Residents and visitors seeking further information or updates on the cemetery’s reopening are encouraged to contact Oak Hill’s office directly at 269-964-7321.
