Wheelchair-Bound Resident Rescued as Fire Destroys Home Near Grand Junction

COLUMBIA TOWNSHIP, Mich. — A devastating fire engulfed a home on Baseline Road near 51 ½ Street Sunday afternoon, destroying the residence and spreading to two additional buildings and a nearby field.

The fire was reported at approximately 4:45 p.m., according to South Haven Area Emergency Services (SHAES). Upon arrival, firefighters found the home fully ablaze.

Deputies on the scene aided a resident in a wheelchair to safely evacuate the burning house. The individual was treated by first responders at the site for minor injuries or smoke inhalation.

Fire departments from Bangor Community, Lee Township, Bloomingdale, Gobles, Lawrence, and Allegan responded to assist in battling the extensive flames, according to SHAES.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation. No further injuries have been reported.
