Grand Rapids, MI – At approximately 6:40 p.m., officers in Grand Rapids, Michigan, responded to the area of Oakland Avenue SW and Rumsey Street SW following reports of a shooting.
According to police, two victims were located on the property of Southwest Elementary School: an adult female in her 30s and a 14-year-old male. Both suffered life-threatening gunshot wounds.
First responders provided life-saving measures at the scene. The juvenile victim was pronounced dead at the scene, while the woman later died at the hospital from her injuries.
Authorities said the suspect fled after the shooting but was later located and taken into custody. The investigation is being handled by the Major Case Team and remains ongoing.
Police are asking anyone with information to contact the Grand Rapids Police Department or submit anonymous tips through Silent Observer.
