GAINES TOWNSHIP, Mich. — A chain-reaction crash involving seven vehicles and a Rapid bus took place on Kalamazoo Avenue just north of M-6 Tuesday afternoon, authorities confirmed. The accident, which occurred around 3:00 p.m., was triggered when the Rapid bus rear-ended a car, causing a cascade of collisions.

According to the Kent County Sheriff’s Office, the momentum from the initial collision led to a pile-up that involved a total of seven vehicles. While the incident resulted in significant damage to the vehicles involved, authorities reported that only one person sustained minor injuries. This individual was treated at the scene by emergency medical personnel.

A crew from News 8 arrived on the scene and observed a Rapid bus, along with multiple vehicles, including a fire truck and police vehicles, as emergency responders worked to clear the area. The crash caused significant traffic delays, with Kalamazoo Avenue being temporarily blocked off while deputies conducted their investigation.

At this time, authorities have not confirmed the exact cause of the crash, but the Kent County Sheriff’s Office is actively investigating the incident.

Motorists are advised to avoid the area as the investigation continues, and additional details are expected to be released once the sheriff’s office concludes its examination.
