KALAMAZOO TOWNSHIP, Mich. — A Kalamazoo Township resident shot and injured a man who was allegedly attempting to break into a home early Tuesday morning, according to local authorities.
The incident occurred around 2:30 a.m. on Nazareth Road, near E. Main Street. Kalamazoo Township police responded to reports of an ongoing home invasion. Upon arriving at the scene, officers discovered that a second break-in was also in progress at a neighboring residence.
A resident of the second home told police that an individual had tried to force entry into the house. In response, the homeowner fired shots, striking the would-be intruder.
The suspect, a 49-year-old Kalamazoo man, was found behind the home with a gunshot wound. He was transported to a nearby hospital where he was treated for injuries that are not considered life-threatening.
Authorities said the man will likely face criminal charges in connection with the break-in attempt. Police have not filed any charges against the homeowner at this time.
The Kalamazoo Township Police Department is continuing to investigate the incident.
