18-Year-Old Charged with Murder Following Fatal Shooting in Byron Township

Grand Rapids, Mich. — An 18-year-old man has been charged with the murder of 36-year-old Jeffrey Gamble, whose death occurred after a shooting on Sunday in Byron Township. Marquan Leron Brice was arraigned on Tuesday on one count of open murder and a weapons charge in connection with the incident.

The shooting, which took place on N. Harewood Drive in the Camelot Manor mobile home neighborhood, reportedly stemmed from a domestic argument, according to the Kent County Sheriff’s Office. Authorities stated that Brice, who had been living with Gamble’s mother for several years, shot Gamble in the chest and hip. Gamble was transported to a hospital where he later died from his injuries.

Brice is said to have been like a son to Jeffrey Gamble, who had been in a long-term relationship with Brice’s mother. Thadius Gamble, Jeffrey’s brother, expressed his grief and spoke about the man he described as a good-hearted and caring individual. “He was a great friend to all his friends, he was a great brother, he was a great uncle to my nieces and nephews,” Thadius Gamble shared. “He always took care of his nieces and nephews, made sure he did that from the youngest to the oldest.”

Despite the devastating loss, Thadius Gamble revealed that he had forgiven Brice for the tragic act. “It only takes a half a second of emotion to change everybody’s life, and that’s what it was, a half a second of emotion,” he said. “I don’t want nothing to happen to him, and I hate that he is going through this.”

Thadius, who has already lost four brothers, emphasized the importance of cherishing loved ones. “I tell all my boys that y’all need to learn how to be together… I love that guy, I loved him and he knew it, and I am going to miss him,” he said, reflecting on the profound grief of losing a family member.

The Kent County Sheriff’s Office noted that there were no prior domestic disturbance reports at the home where the shooting occurred. As the investigation continues, Brice remains in custody, awaiting further legal proceedings.

This tragic event serves as a stark reminder of how quickly emotions can escalate into irreversible consequences, leaving families and communities to cope with the aftermath of such devastating loss.
