Portage, Mich. — A suspect was injured following a foot chase with police in Portage Tuesday evening, which involved the use of a taser, a K-9 unit, and a knife.
At approximately 8:45 p.m., officers from the Portage Department of Public Safety (PDPS) attempted to arrest a suspect wanted on felony warrants in the area of Apple Street, between Newells Lane and Oakside Street. The suspect, whose identity has not yet been released, fled the scene on foot as officers closed in.
During the chase, the suspect reportedly displayed a knife, prompting a heightened response from law enforcement. Michigan State Police officers were called in to assist Portage police in tracking down the individual. The foot pursuit ultimately ended when officers deployed a taser, and the suspect was apprehended by a K-9 unit.
The suspect sustained injuries during the confrontation, with PDPS Director Nick Armold suggesting that the individual may have fallen on the knife they were carrying. Emergency medical personnel treated the suspect at the scene before they were transported to a local hospital for further evaluation.
The identity of the suspect has not been made public, and it remains unclear which specific felony warrants led to the attempted arrest. Authorities have stated that more information will be released on Wednesday.
The investigation into the incident is ongoing, with law enforcement agencies continuing to gather details. Further updates are expected as more information becomes available.
