Grand Rapids, MICH. – The Catholic Diocese of Grand Rapids has announced the appointment of Sarah Grey as the new superintendent of schools, effective July 1. Grey, who has been with the diocese since 2020 as the assistant superintendent, will succeed Dave Faber, who is retiring after 15 years in the role.
A native of Ohio, Grey brings over two decades of experience in Catholic education, having held various teaching and administrative roles across the country. She earned her bachelor’s degree in anthropology and two master’s degrees in education from the University of Notre Dame. Throughout her career, Grey has been deeply committed to advancing Catholic education, working to integrate faith and academic excellence in the schools she has served.
Bishop David Walkowiak expressed confidence in Grey’s leadership, praising her dedication to the mission of Catholic schools. “Sarah has dedicated her career to advancing Catholic education, and I am confident that she will continue to make our Catholic schools places where students come to know, love, and serve God, and grow in their Catholic faith, identity, and mission,” Walkowiak said in a statement.
In her new role, Grey will oversee 31 elementary and secondary schools within the diocese, all of which have seen rising enrollment for four consecutive years. She expressed her excitement for the opportunity to lead, noting the importance of continuing the work of her predecessor, Dave Faber. “I look forward to building on the strong legacy established by Dave and working with Bishop Walkowiak to ensure our schools remain integrated in the evangelizing mission of the diocese,” Grey said. “Catholic schools are transformational, and I am grateful for the opportunity to lead while supporting pastors, principals, teachers, students, and the greater Catholic community as we work together for the continued growth and pursuit of excellence in our Catholic schools.”
Grey’s appointment marks a significant step in the ongoing growth and development of the Catholic schools in the diocese, as they continue to provide quality education rooted in faith and academic rigor. With a strong track record in Catholic education and a deep commitment to the mission of the Church, Sarah Grey is poised to lead the diocese’s schools into a new era of success and spiritual growth.
